UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA (PHILADELPHIA) OFFICER ALMOST STRUCK IN CAMPUS HIT-AND-RUN
An unknown driver assaulted a Penn Police officer with his vehicle Wednesday afternoon, Division of Public Safety officials said. While directing traffic on the 3100 block of South Street, the Penn Police officer observed a vehicle accelerating around the corner at a high rate of speed.
After the officer signaled the driver to pull over, the driver ignored his instructions and proceeded to drive directly toward the officer, eventually striking his bicycle. The police officer had to take evasive action in order to prevent being hit by the speeding vehicle.
The suspect continued to drive recklessly while fleeing the scene, driving down the street in the wrong direction. The Penn Police are still investigating the incident, which occurred at about 3:45 p.m.
