SUSPECT HITS TEXAS OFFICER, WRECKS A BLOCK AWAY
An officer was struck by a suspect's vehicle after responding to a call of "suspicious persons" in the 1000 block of Knightsbridge Drive Wednesday, Frisco authorities said. Frisco police said the first responding officer arrived on the scene to find five people smoking what appeared to be marijuana in the backyard of a home.
As the officer waited for backup, one of the suspects, 22-year-old Jeffrey Gittens, jumped into a Chevrolet. As the suspect fled the scene, police said he struck the officer's patrol vehicle and hit the officer as well.
Authorities said the suspect didn't get too far, though. A block away from the scene of the first accident, authorities said the suspect got into a three-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Main Street and Commonwealth Drive. He then fled on foot, and was later arrested by Little Elm officers.
In all, two juveniles were taken into Frisco custody, and two adults, 18-year-old Cory Boehnke and 18-year-old Peyton Burns, were also arrested. Officers said they found several bags of marijuana and scales at the scene. All four suspects face drug charges.
Gittens was also detained at the Frisco Police Department Detention Facility and faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault of a peace officer.
The officer's injuries were non life-threatening.
