QUEBEC OFFICER IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER CAR IS STRUCK BY CRANE ON TRUCK

A Sûreté du Québec officer was seriously injured yesterday morning when his patrol car was struck by a truck carrying a crane on Highway 15 in Mirabel.

The 43-year-old officer had pulled over a car near Exit 35 on the southbound section of the highway when the accident occurred. The officer was inside his cruiser, parked in the emergency lane, when it was struck by a part of the crane as the truck passed by in the right-hand lane. The officer was taken to hospital in St. Jérôme, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Constable Joyce Kemp, of the SQ, said the officer's injuries are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the tractor trailer was treated for shock, but was not injured in the accident.
