PENNSYLVANIA FIRE POLICE OFFICER STRUCK
A Mount Joy fire police officer was struck by a vehicle Sunday while directing traffic around a two-car crash in Rapho Township. Denise Heberling, an 11-year fire department veteran, escaped serious injury but was treated for scrapes and bruises to her lower back, said fire police Capt. Barry Heberling, who is the victim's husband.
According to state police, Heberling was struck by the passenger-side mirror of a Chrysler Concorde sedan about 7:15 p.m. as she directed traffic in front of Lancaster Bible Church, 2392 Mount Joy Road. Police did not release the name of the driver, who they said will be charged with careless driving for going through a traffic-control area in an unsafe manner.
Denise Heberling declined medical assistance at the scene but later sought treatment, Barry Heberling said. The Heberlings are looking for the driver of a small white vehicle that was directly behind the car that struck Denise Heberling. The driver, who was a witness to the accident, is asked to call
Barry Heberling at 330-2314.
In an earlier crash, state police said two vehicles collided at Route 772 and Esbenshade Road about 5:45 p.m., sending one car into a 360-degree spin.
According to police, John Devorick, 78, of Camp Hill, was traveling west on Route 772 and proceeded through a red light, striking a vehicle driven by Brittany Schlutker, 19, of Lititz. Schlutker, who was traveling south Esbenshade Road, had two passengers in her car.
