OREGON MOTORCYCLE OFFICER STRUCK BY ELDERLY DRIVER
A police officer was injured Friday evening when a passing car driven by an elderly woman struck him while he was standing on the side of the road for a traffic stop, police said. Officer John Redenbo suffered minor injuries in the incident and was treated and released from an area hospital, police said. The five-year veteran was expected to return to duty next week.
According to police, Redenbo was standing by a vehicle he had pulled over for speeding on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard near the intersection with Southeast Jefferson Street about 9:30 p.m. when a passing 2000 Ford Taurus struck him.
The driver did not stop, and Redenbo had to get on his motorcycle, which was not hit, and follow the Taurus to make the driver pull over, police said.
Larose Mueller Murphy, 83, of Gladstone, apparently was not aware she had hit the officer, police said. She was cited for failure to maintain a safe distance from an emergency vehicle, police said.
