LOUISIANA POLICE OFFICER STRUCK BY MOTORIST

A Pineville police officer is being treated at a local hospital after being hit by a passing motorist. It happened around 12:49pm on Highway 165, near the Wal-Mart. Police arrested 49 year-old Wanda Edwards of Ball.

Edwards was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated 4th Offense and Vehicular Negligent Injury. Police say PFC Kevin Wyatt was standing on the shoulder of the road issuing a citation to another driver. Reportedly Edwards drove onto the shoulder struck officer Wyatt and then fled the scene. Edwards was apprehended a short distance down the road. Police say they have two independent witnesses who confirm they saw Edwards hit the officer.

Edwards reportedly was on parole for 3rd Offense DWI. Police say Officer Wyatt sustained moderate injuries.
