FLORIDA DEPUTY INVOLVED IN DEADLY ACCIDENT
A Charlotte County deputy was involved in a fatal accident Sunday night on Interstate 75. It happened just before 11 p.m. near the Jones Loop Road exit.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a pick-up truck drifted off the interstate and hit a Charlotte County cruiser parked in the median. The deputy had his emergency lights activated because he was working another car accident.
After hitting the patrol car, the 26-year-old driver of the truck then apparently lost control. His vehicle went back on to the interstate and hit an SUV. The truck rolled over and the driver was thrown from the cab. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died on the scene. Investigators haven't released the man's name yet.
The deputy suffered minor injuries. The two people in the SUV were not injured.
No word yet on if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
