DEADLY SHOOTING AT MARYLAND GAS STATION
Gunfire erupted at a gas station in Dundalk during the Friday evening commute. One man is dead and another was taken to the hospital. It all began when Baltimore County Police say they were staking out a suspect. They won't say why the man was under investigation. But when they saw him leave his house and drive to a nearby gas station, police followed. And that's when the deadly confrontation occurred at the BP gas station at the corner of Merritt Boulevard and Dunmanway.
Danny Sautter was on his way to fill up when instinct told him to wait. “I was like thank God we didn't go to the gas station... Otherwise we would've been involved in this and God knows what would've happened." At around 5:30 Friday evening, the gas station turned into a crime scene. Spent shell casings were scattered all over the lot, and cars riddled with bullet holes. Police followed the suspect from his home to the gas station and when they ordered him out of the car, they say things turned ugly.
Corporal Mike Hill with the Baltimore County Police Department says, "He backed into one of the police cars, apparently put it into drive trying to run over another police officer." That's when police opened fire on the suspect killing him. An adult male passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No police officers were hurt. Sautter says, "For this area, this is awful tragic... In Dundalk, things like this don't happen that much."
No customers or gas station employees were hurt in the shooting. Police are not releasing the name of the deceased suspect or his passenger until family members are notified.
