CALIFORNIA COLLEGE POLICE OFFICER NEARLY STRUCK
An American River College police officer was nearly run over by a man who had been fighting with a woman, according to a Sacramento County sheriff's report.
The campus police officer was patroling the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. March 8 when he spotted two people arguing, the report said. The officer stepped out of his marked patrol car and asked if there was a problem. The suspect was uncooperative in giving in- formation, the report said. The officer then stepped behind the suspect's car to read the license plate number. The suspect placed his vehicle in reverse and drove backward, steering the car in the direction of the officer, the report said. The officer had to step out of the path of the car to avoid being hit.
Deputies arrived and tried to detain the suspect, but he pulled away and resisted being handcuffed, they said. A struggle ensued, and it took several deputies to place the suspect in handcuffs, the report said. Scott Savage, 40, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, the report said.
