BALTIMORE TRAFFIC OFFICER STRUCK BY MOTORIST
Authorities say charges are pending against a driver accused of running down a city traffic enforcement officer. The officer was struck while directing traffic Thursday afternoon at Baltimore and Charles streets prior to a circus performance at the 1st Mariner Arena. Department of Transportation officials say the driver refused the officer's order to turn into an open lane, then accelerated and struck her.
Witnesses ran after the driver, who was later apprehended by police.
The officer is said to be in stable condition at Shock Trauma. Police have not named the driver or the officer.
