ASSAILANT SOUGHT AFTER FLORIDA DEPUTY HIT BY CAR
An Orange County sheriff's deputy was injured on Tuesday while responding to a disturbance call. It happened along 41st Street near South Orange Blossom Trail.
Authorities said the deputy, Ben Goldstein, was responding to a disturbance between two people at a local motel, and the deputy tried to break up the fight. Witnesses said a man was trying to throw a woman into traffic.
Goldstein tried to make the arrest, investigators said another man got involved in an effort to stop the arrest. While trying to end the disturbance, the deputy was struck by a car, but he was not seriously hurt, investigators said.
A large contingent of police and deputies blocked off an area between 38th and 44th streets from the South OBT to Rio Grande Avenue. The original suspect was arrested. Goldstein injured his arm as he tried to arrest the other man who interfered with the arrest. Despite an intense search effort involving police dogs and horses, that subject got away.
Investigators said Goldstein suffered severe road rash on his arm. For a couple hours, people could not get in or out of a six-block area along the South OBT as authorities looked for the other subject.
