PENNSYLVANIA POLICE SAY THAT DRIVER WAS DRUNK WHEN SHE HIT POLICE VEHICLE
City police say a woman was drunk when her car slammed into the back of a vehicle driven by an off-duty state trooper in December. After Lori A. Thomas struck the car driven by Trooper James Doane on Dec. 13, the officer “smelled the presence of an alcoholic beverage on her breath,” according to court records. Doane also noticed that Thomas’ words were slurred when she spoke.
When Doane asked the 43-year-old woman if she had been drinking, she answered, ‘What of it?’ according to an affidavit. City police said Thomas of 617 Lloyd St. allegedly was drunk when the crash occurred at the foot of the Maynard Street off-ramp of Interstate 180. No one was injured.
Thomas subsequently admitted she “had four beers and one mixed drink” over a four-hour period. Her blood-alcohol content level at the time was .20, more than twice the legal limit, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and careless driving and has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge James G. Carn.
