NEW JERSEY OFFICERS INJURED IN I-80 CRASH
Two Paterson city police officers were in the hospital Sunday afternoon after each of their cars were struck on Interstate 80 early Sunday morning, police said. Officer Audrey Adams, 40, and Officer Ronald James, 37, were in stable condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Lt. Dennis Cappello said. The officers sustained “minor back injuries” that are not life-threatening, Cappello said.
The officers were parked in the left lane, securing the scene of a one-car spinout with no injuries at mile marker 59.2. At 1:10 a.m. Adams’ car was rear-ended, said state Trooper Greg Cyrwus. Adams’ car then hit James’ car, Cyrwus said.
The police cars were struck by a car driven by Michael Santos, Cappello said. Santos’ license was registered in New York City. His car was registered in Ohio, Cyrwus said. The accident is under investigation. Santos, who stayed on scene, is expected to get “numerous motor vehicle summonses,” Cappello said.
