NO JAIL TIME FOR D.U.I. DRIVER WHO STRUCK OFFICER
A drunken driver who seriously injured a police officer will not go to jail for the offense. Brad Kaneshiro admitted falling asleep at the wheel after drinking. He crashed into police investigating a prior accident on Moanalua freeway. Sgt. Michael Clark was injured by the impact.
"God must have more work for me to do, otherwise he wouldn't have sent those guardian angels to let me fly as far as I did and still survive," Clark said.
"It was not anything I intended to do. It just happened," Kaneshiro said.
Prosecutors wanted Kaneshiro to spend 90 days in jail.
Instead, Judge James Dannenberg gave Kaneshiro 180 hours of community service along with a $500 fine and six-month license suspension required by law.
Kaneshiro is part owner of the popular Kalihi eatery Mitsu-Ken Okazu and Catering.
