MINNESOTA OFFICER ABLE TO WALK AFTER BEING STRUCK BY MOTORIST
A Burnsville police officer is able to walk but could suffer a knee injury after he was hit by an SUV while outside his car investigating an accident.
Officer Christopher Biagini, 24, who has been with the department for nearly a year, was released from the hospital Monday night - the same day as the accident - with no broken bones, said Sgt. Jef Behnken of the Burnsville Police Department.
Biagini declined an interview request Thursday. Doctors say Biagini could have a knee injury, but swelling and bruising is preventing a diagnosis, Behnken said. Biagini is scheduled to return to the doctors in two weeks, and will continue on paid leave for at least that time.
A 16-year-old girl, whose identity was not released, drove the SUV that hit Biagini. She was headed east on Burnsville Parkway near Nicollet Avenue. Just before 4 p.m., the SUV came up behind Biagini and apparently attempted to pass the officer as he stood next to a car that had hit a pole. The SUV spun out of control and struck the officer in the legs. The teenage driver has not been arrested.
Biagini was evaluated at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. No one else was hurt. The road was slippery and covered with a light layer of snow at the time, police noted. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.
