WEST VIRGINA TROOPER STRUCK BY CAR AT ACCIDENT SCENE
A West Virginia State Police trooper was struck by a car while investigating an accident on Interstate 81 early Saturday. Trooper D.S. See was treated at City Hospital and released after being struck by a Ford Escort about 3:25 a.m. near the 23-mile marker, according to a state police press release.
See and Trooper J.D. Schuessler responded to the scene at 3:15 a.m. to investigate an accident in which a Chevrolet Malibu apparently slid off the road and struck an embankment, the release said. The Malibu was unoccupied.
About 10 minutes later, the northbound Ford Escort slid off the edge of the interstate and struck the driver's side door of Schuessler's cruiser, the release said. The Escort then struck See and the Malibu, the release said.
The driver of the Escort, Tristen Shifflett, 23, of Hagerstown, was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI causing injury, the release said.
