SUSPECTED DUI DRIVER SHOT DURING CALIFORNIA PURSUIT

Authorities said the suspected DUI driver tried to run over a CHP officer during an attempted traffic stop. During the alleged attempted assault, the officer fearing for his life, fired two shots, CHP said. The shooting incident occured early Saturday morning near the intersection of Grandstaff and Bramford in south Sacramento.

Officers fired shots at the suspect and at least one bullet hit him in the lower back, CHP said. He then fled the scene, leading officers on a chase down Highway 99. The chase ended when the driver crashed into the median on 99 near Mak Road. The driver was taken to a hospital. The shooting is being investigated by CHP and Sacramento Police.
