SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER CRASHES INTO WASHINGTON POLICE CAR

A Portland Police officer was injured early Sunday morning after his patrol car was rear-ended on Interstate 5. Portland police said that Officer Bill Shaw was sitting inside his patrol vehicle waiting for a tow truck when 21-year-old Terrence Hoveke hit Shaw’s patrol car from behind.

The police vehicle was totaled. The incident happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday on I-5 southbound near Hood Street. Both Officer Shaw and the suspect were injured. Officer Shaw was taken to Legacy Emanuel hospital for treatment.

Portland police said that Officer Shaw is 39-years-old and a 13-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau. The traffic division was called to investigate the crash.

The suspect was arrested and charged with one count each of DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and assault in the third degree.
