PHILADELPHIA OFFICER OPENS FIRE AFTER BEING HIT BY S.U.V. IN OLD CITY

A Philadelphia police officer was injured after being struck by an SUV in Old City early Sunday morning. The 6th District officer was patrolling the area as the clubs were emptying around 2 a.m. and spotted a black S.U.V. driving wildly around 2nd and Chestnut.

The S.U.V. was trying to avoid a SEPTA officer, who was pursuing the vehicle for driving erratically. The officer went to help the SEPTA officer and was struck by the out of control vehicle, which prompted him and the SEPTA officer to open fire on the SUV.

The car was left riddled with bullet holes and shattered back and side windows, but managed to escape the scene. The dilapidated SUV then arrived at the University of Pennsylvania hospital because three of the occupants suffered gun shot wounds and were seeking treatment. All three wounded men were then spotted and caught by police and are undergoing treatment for their injuries at Hahnehman. The officer injured his shoulder and was treated at Jefferson and released. The SEPTA officer was not injured. Philadelphia Police are still investigating this incident.
