PENNSYLVANIA OFFICER STRUCK WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC
A Lower Southampton police officer was directing traffic Tuesday night at the scene of an accident when he was struck by a car and thrown into a tow truck, according to police. Police said a car was pulled to the westbound side of Bridgetown Pike after striking a telephone pole about 10 yards east of Revere Street shortly before 6 p.m.
An officer, who had parked behind the car in the accident, was directing traffic as a flatbed tow truck prepared to load the damaged car shortly after 6 p.m., police said. However, as the officer stopped traffic he was struck by a vehicle headed in the opposite direction. Police said the impact threw the officer into the front of the tow truck.
The officer was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, however, police said he was conscious and alert while in the ambulance and the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. A section of Bridgetown Pike between Jay Street and Arbor Lane was closed for more than an hour as police investigated the accident.
