LIMO STRIKES D.C. BIKE OFFICER
A D.C. police mountain bike officer was struck by a car on Thursday just before 5 p.m. in the 4300 block of Ord Street Northeast near Kenilworth Parkside. The officer was taken to Washington Hospital Center in stable condition for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer, who is not being identified yet, is a six-year veteran of the department, officials said.
Officials said two officers on bike patrol stopped near an alley to talk with some juveniles. A black 2006 Cadillac DTS Limousine pulled up behind them, according to police. Officials said the driver revved the engine and drove toward the officer. The officer who was struck managed to push his partner out of the limo's way.
Police located the vehicle in the 4400 block of Quarles Street Northeast. It was reported stolen from the 2600 block of Woodley Road Northwest on Dec. 5. The tags on the Cadillac at this time are not registered to that vehicle, police said. There is no word on the driver of the vehicle.
Residents said they often see bike patrol officers in the area, and they have trouble with stolen vehicles in the neighborhood. Police officials are at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
