INDIANA OFFICER STRUCK BY DRUNK DRIVER ON I-65
An Indiana State Police officer is recovering after being hit by a drunk driver. It happened just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night, on I-65 at the 256 mile marker, one mile north of the 61st/Merrillville exit.
Trooper Joseph Myers, 33, was sitting in his squad car writing a ticket for a driver he pulled over.
A gold 2001 Buick, driven by 36-year-old John G. Jurasevich of Crown Point, veered off the road and struck the right rear of the trooper's squad car.
Jurasevich, who Indiana State Police say was "extremely intoxicated," was taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point. Trooper Myers was also taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital where he was treated and released.
Myers had just graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in July. The driver of the vehicle stopped by Myers was not hurt.
