CAR SMASHES INTO FLORIDA CRASH SCENE, KILLING TOW-TRUCK DRIVER
A tow truck driver died, and two others were injured in a crash on State Road 836 early Sunday morning, police said. Police said three tow-truck drivers responded to a previous car crash on the 836 westbound expressway at 17th Avenue. As the workers were hooking up the cars, the driver of a black Mustang lost control of his vehicle, police said.
"As the tow trucks were hooking up to the previous crashes, a black Mustang came barreling through the coned-off area, smashed into the crash scene, killing a tow-truck driver and seriously injuring two other two-truck drivers," Pat Santangelo, of Florida Highway Patrol, said.
The driver of the Mustang was treated at the scene, police said.
Police said the other two tow-truck drivers are in serious condition in the hospital. Police are investigating if alcohol played a role in the collision.
The 836 Expressway was closed and reopened later Sunday morning, authorities said.
