VETERAN TENNESSEE OFFICER STRUCK

Maryville Patrolman Bill Hughes suffered what is thought to be a slight injury to the arm after being hit at 8:05 a.m. today by a driver in a pickup truck.

Hughes, a 19-year veteran of the force, was directing traffic around a wreck in the area of Court Street and Boardman Avenue when the mirror on the passenger side of a pickup truck struck him. The mirror, on the truck headed toward town, was a collapsable mirror, which Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said kept Hughes from being more seriously injured.
