OKLAHOMA DEPUTY MOURNS DEATH OF K-9 PARTNER

Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies are mourning the loss of a K-9 deputy who was struck by a pickup truck and killed while chasing a suspect. Brisco, a 6-year-old Dutch German shepherd, died yesterday while chasing a suspect on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma City.

Sheriff's spokesman Mark Myers says Brisco served with the sheriff's office for three years and is the first Oklahoma County K-9 deputy to die in the line of duty. Deputies stopped a sport utility vehicle at I-35 and Interstate 44 about 4:30 a.m. A suspect started running, and Brisco was chasing him when he was struck by the pickup. Myers says the driver of the pickup didn't see the dog until it was too late.

Myers says the sheriff's department has seven other K-9 deputies and will look to replace Brisco.
