NEW YORK FIREFIGHTER HIT AT CRASH SCENE

A Genesee County man is under arrest after police say he hit a firefighter with his car at a crash scene. It happened on Main Street in the Village of LeRoy. Police say William Atherton, 51, drove past a roadblock at a crash scene involving his mother.

Atherton is accused of confronting an officer at the scene. Police say he then drove to another roadblock. After telling firefighters he was going through, police say Atherton hit one of the firefighters. The victim was transported to Strong Hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries to the hip and shoulder. William Atherton is charged with assault in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident.
