MAN CHARGED AFTER EX-CITY POLICE OFFICER HIT BY CAR
A 41-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court yesterday charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a former Coventry police officer, hit by a car as she tried to detain a fraud suspect. The incident happened as DC Catherine Corbett and three other West Midlands officers tried to arrest a man near Heathrow Airport.
Rashpal Singh, who also faces two counts of actual bodily harm against two male officers - DC Matthew Millward and DC Stefan Wojciewszyn - and a dangerous driving charge, appeared at Hendon Magistrates' Court in north-west London.
Singh, of Gladstone Street, West Bromwich, spoke to confirm his personal details during the three-minute hearing.
DC Corbett, 39, of Solihull, who used to be based at Coventry's Little Park Street police station, remains in a critical condition in the neurological unit at London's Charing Cross Hospital.
