TOW TRUCK DRIVER STRUCK AND KILLED
A wrecker driver was killed last night while walking across a freeway in southeast Harris County. And to make matters worse, it all happened with his son nearby. His truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 225 last night, towing a Cadillac. Investigators say that as the truck was approaching the Goodyear exit, a wheel came off of the Cadillac and rolled off into the darkness.
The tow truck driver slowed down and parked in the center lane to try to get the lost wheel. "When he ran across the shoulder to see where the wheel was, he tried to come back over to his wrecker," said E. Morgan with the Houston Police Department. "He was struck by a van."
The driver of the white minivan did stop and call 911. At this point, police say it was an unavoidable accident, as the motorist just didn't have time to stop. Meanwhile, the victim's son was still in the truck cab. Relatives came to pick him up from the scene. Police say that victim is in his 50s, although his name hasn't been released. The driver of the minivan has not been charged.
