TEXAS POLICE OFFICER HIT BY PICKUP

Investigators say the force of the impact was so strong, the officer's gun belt fell off. A China Grove police officer is in the hospital on Sunday night, after he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

That officer was helping clear a wreck on Foster Road when he was hit.

Deputies from the Sheriff's office were helping clear the scene, and one officer from China Grove was helping deputies out directing traffic, when a truck hit him.

The truck's driver is in custody Sunday night, suspected of DWI. Investigators say the force of the impact was so strong, the officer's gun belt fell off.

"The injuries are non-life threatening," said Sgt. Yvonne Villarreal, who is with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. "He was transported to BAMC with non-life threatening injuries. He's stable."

The officer's name from China Grove is not being released. His shoulder was injured, and should be okay. The suspected drunk driver has not been placed under arrest, but he is in custody.
