TEXAS OFFICER STRUCK BY TRAILER
A Laredo Police Department traffic officer was taken to Laredo Medical Center Friday afternoon after being hit by a tractor-trailer.Traffic Officer Luis Raines suffered minor injuries when he was a hit by the trailer while directing traffic at about 1:48 p.m. at a construction area near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Beltway, close to mile marker 12.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Roderick Jerrad Sonnier, 42, struck Raines with the trailer, said Officer Lisa Ruiz, an LPD spokeswoman.
Sonnier then attempted to flee, but was quickly caught, Ruiz said.
Raines suffered a concussion and several scrapes, and was to remain hospitalized for evaluation purposes, Ruiz said.
Sonnier was arrested for failure to stop and render aid, a state jail felony. He was held at Webb County Jail without bond.
