MICHIGAN DEPUTY'S SQUAD CAR STRUCK
A suspected drunk driver slammed into the rear of a Monroe County sheriff's deputy's squad car that was on the scene of another accident early Saturday morning. No one was injured in the collision on N. Telegraph Rd. near Ready Rd. in Ash Township. It occurred about 1:30 a.m.
Reports said Deputies Doug Bender and Steve Rousselo were outside their parked squad car as they were investigating an accident that occurred earlier. Sgt. Geoffrey Kovenich said the squad car's lights were activated.
Suddenly a vehicle traveling northbound struck the rear of the patrol car. Reports said the driver was traveling around 55 mph then slowed to about 40 mph before rear-ending the deputy's car. Sgt. Kovenich said the driver did not appear to swerve or brake.
The driver, a 52-year-old Ohio man, had visible signs of being intoxicated, deputies said. He was taken into custody and lodged in the county jail.
