LAWYER: DRIVER WHO FATALLY HIT DEPUTY WAS REAR-ENDED EARLIER THAT DAY

A driver who fatally hit a deputy constable making a traffic stop was involved in a collision hours before. Attorney Kent Schaffer said driver James Legg, 44, was at the intersection of Briar Forest Drive and Ashford Parkway in west Houston, near where he had just dropped his children off at school on Monday. He was on his way to drop off his wife before heading to work at a software company.

As Legg sat at a red light, there was a sudden jolt. Schaffer said a woman rear-ended Legg's car at 35 mph. The woman was rushed to the hospital while Legg and his wife filed a police report and continued driving.
