KENTUCKY OFFICER KILLED IN FREEWAY ACCIDENT

A suburban Louisville police officer is dead after an accident on the Gene Snyder Freeway in east Louisville.

Louisville MetroSafe dispatch says the freeway is closed in both directions near La Grange Road.

Louisville police spokesman Phil Russell says a truck struck the police vehicle about 2 p.m. EDT on Monday. The vehicle was parked near a construction site with its emergency lights on to protect a crew working on the freeway. Three construction workers were injured.

The police officer's identity has not been released.
