ACCUSED DRUNK DRIVER HITS FLORIDA DEPUTY
An Orange County Deputy was recovering Saturday after being run down outside a bar earlier in the morning by a man police said was a drunk driver. Police said two off-duty deputies were in the parking lot of Scoops Bar at Alafaya Trail and East Colonial Drive when two vehicles pulled in and the drivers started fighting.
When the deputies tried to break it up, one of the drivers got back in his car and sped off, hitting one of the deputies. More deputies were called in and they were able to stop the suspect a few miles away. The deputy suffered some scrapes and bruises, but she's OK.
"The deputy that was struck, rolled off the vehicle. She was treated and released on the scene by Orange County Fire Department," said Sgt. Todd Gardiner, from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. The driver now faces a number of charges, including aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and driving under the influence. The driver of the other car involved in the incident at the bar was also arrested and charged with drunk driving.
