VIRGINIA COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER STRUCK IN HIT AND RUN
A Virginia Beach Police Department Community Service Officer was struck by a car Tuesday. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on Indian River Road. An earlier crash resulted in downed powerlines on the rode, and the CSO was posted at an intersection while crews worked on the situation.
One motorist, Beverly Elise Pavona, told the CSO that she lived down the street, and just wanted to drive home. The CSO said she would check with investigators to see if the road was safe enough for Pavona to travel it.
While the officer waited for an answer, Pavona allegedly got impatient and drove around the CSO's car, which was blocking lanes of traffic.
The CSO stopped Pavona, but the woman stepped on the gas, striking the CSO's knee. Pavona was found later at her home and charged with felony hit and run. She is being held without bond at the Va. Beach Correctional Center. The CSO was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.
