SOUTH CAROLINA POLICE OFFICER ASSAULTED

A Savannah Chatham Police officer was assaulted by a shoplifter. It all happened today at the Savannah Festival Outlet Center near Interstate 95 and Highway 204.

Police say 31-year-old Kristine Grant was shop lifting from one of the stores when Officer Kyle Suddath confronted her. Sergeant Mike Wilson with the Savannah Chatham Police Department said, "Grant removed some items from underneath her clothing, threw them to the ground, and hopped inside the parked car. The officer grabbed her, but lost his grip and she sped off."

Officer Suddath was taken to Saint Joseph Candler with a dislocated shoulder. Officer Suddath had not even been on the police force a year, this was actually his first week on the job without a training officer. Many people in the shopping center didn't even see it happen. The only reason they knew something had happened was because police were all over the parking lot. However, some store managers said shop lifting is not that uncommon there, but never has it gone this far.
