NORTH CAROLINA DEPUTY INJURED SETTING UP CHECKPOINT ON ROUTE 17
A sheriff’s deputy was hit by a car while setting up a Labor Day checkpoint on Route 17 in Camden County, a mile south of the Virginia/North Carolina state line. Deputy Brandon Blunt was placing cones out for a safety checkpoint this morning when he was hit. He was taken by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital around 8:30 a.m.
Blunt got a gash in the back of his head after the accident, but 13News has been told he will pull through. Law officers say the accident is a prime example of why people need to be safer when driving on the road. “They don't pay attention, that’s why the move over law was put into the law,” said Camden Co. Sheriff Tony Perry. “This is another reason because they're not paying attention."
