NEW YORK CITY OFFICER HOPITALIZED AFTER HIT-AND-RUN

Police say the uniformed officer was on patrol last night in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn when he was hit by a car that sped away. The officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital. He is in stable condition with a head injury. Police say the car is believed to be a silver Honda Odyssey.

A Brooklyn cop investigating a car theft was struck by a hit-and-run driver last night, authorities said. The officer, a 10-year-veteran assigned to the 90th Precinct, had been checking vehicles with his partner at Division and Kent avenues in Williamsburg just before midnight when a car came barreling down the street.

The officer was not immediately identified. "We heard a car screech," said Devon McCutcheon, who had reported the stolen car. "There was a huge smash. A huge sound, he was going so fast." The car that hit the cop sped off. Witnesses said it was a silver Honda that lost its mirror in the accident.

The injured officer was knocked to the ground, injuring his head, police said.

"He was holding his head. He was really traumatized," McCutcheon said. Another witness, Jacob Grunblatt, 19, said, "He had a big cut on the back [of his head]. He was yelling." The officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
