CROFTON, MARYLAND DRIVER ARRESTED FOR STRIKING OFFICER

Police say 36-year-old officer Alex Swartz had stopped another vehicle early Saturday morning on Riedel Road. After placing that driver in his patrol car, police say Swartz was entering the driver's side of the cruiser when he was struck by 21-year-old David Gregory of Crofton.

Police say Gregory had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. Swartz was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center for lower body and leg injuries. Two other police officers from Crofton and Anne Arundel County were at the scene when the accident happened and took Gregory into custody.
