UK FIREFIGHTER STRUCK AND KILLED

Sub officer Paul Mallaghan, 46, was killed on Saturday night as he tackled a blaze between junctions 7 and 8 on the A1(M). As Mr Mallaghan fought to put out the fire on a Saab, the car was struck by a VW Golf. He was confirmed dead at Lister Hospital.
