TOW TRUCK DRIVER KILLED AND FLORIDA TROOPER HURT IN CRASH ON I-95
The Florida Highway Patrol said that a tow truck driver was killed and a state trooper was injured on Friday when they were struck by a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95. The FHP said a trooper had responded to a previous accident on I-95 near Union Street when a SUV came along just after 1 p.m. and sideswiped the cruiser as the trooper was inside writing a report. The northbound SUV then struck 57-year-old Charles Sharpe as he was standing next to his wrecker loading the car from the previous crash.
The truck driver died at the scene. The trooper, Kenneth Washington, 52, was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center where he was treated and released..
