NEW HAMPSHIRE POLICE OFFICER STRUCK BY CAR WHILE SUPERVISING CONSTRUCTION
A Derry police officer was struck by a pickup truck on Wednesday afternoon in Windham as he was supervising construction along Route 28. The officer was hospitalized; police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Route 28 was closed in both directions between Windham and Salem following the accident, which happened about 3:45 p.m. The officer was supervising the Route 111 Bypass construction zone and had stopped traffic to allow a piece of heavy equipment to get by, police said.
News reports said as traffic resumed, a pickup truck in the southbound lane of Route 28 struck the officer, and that the woman driving the vehicle was arrested on a charge of drunken driving.
