LOUISIANA DEPUTY HOSPITALIZED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR
Witnesses watched as a woman driving a Honda with five others inside hit a tree in the road, and then a deputy's car. The East Feliciana Parish deputy, who was standing alongside his unit, was airlifted to a hospital.
One witness says, "She went through the trees, striking the deputy and the deputy's unit."
Deputy Mark Maples is now in fair condition at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
He and another deputy were directing traffic around a fallen tree on Highway 67 in Clinton when the accident happened late Wednesday morning.
The elderly woman driving the car and her passengers are all still hospitalized as well.
