FOSTORIA, OHIO OFFICER RETIRING AFTER 18 YEARS ON FORCE
A Fostoria police officer who was struck by a car while directing traffic in January plans to retire after 18 years on the job. Patrolman Dennis Reffner, one of two officers named Officer of the Year for 2007, said he will retire Wednesday. Mr. Reffner, 59, worked as the city’s assistant engineer and zoning inspector prior to joining the police department.
On Jan. 15, he suffered head injuries when he was struck by a car at North Countyline and Elm streets while he was directing traffic because traffic lights were out.
