WASHINGTON TROOPER INJURED AT SCENE OF FATAL I-405 ACCIDENT

A trooper who had responded to a fatal accident on I-405 in Bellevue suffered minor injuries when his car was hit.

The accident happened about 12:30 this morning when police received a 9-1-1 call from a driver who said they reportedly hit a pedestrian on the interstate.

Sergeant Dan Atchison says troopers had received reports of the man walking on the freeway and were trying to get there before he was killed. The 28-year-old Bellevue man may have been walking away from his disabled vehicle when he was struck and killed by a car.

A patrol car had just arrived at the scene of the fatal accident when it was hit from behind by another car, say police.

"The troopers raced here," said Atchison. "Unfortunately, (they) got here a bit too late."
