UTAH DEPUTY INJURED WHEN MAN RAMS HIS CRUISER AT BANK BRANCH
A man trying to use fake ID to commit fraud at a credit union on Friday rammed his vehicle into a Salt Lake County sheriff's cruiser, injuring the deputy, and then escaped.Workers at the Millcreek branch of America First Credit Union became suspicious of the identification presented by a customer in the drive-up teller lane about 2:30 p.m. and called police.
The sheriff's office responded and deputies tried to block the suspect's vehicle, which was still in the drive-up lane, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. As one deputy tried to open the passenger-side door of the suspect's vehicle, the man floored the accelerator and smashed into the driver's side of another patrol car, hurting the deputy. The driver then fled, running over curbs and landscaping. There was also a passenger in the car.
The sheriff's office is very concerned about the level of desperation and violence exhibited by these suspects who, during the day, may have 'hit' as many as six credit union locations from Bountiful to Orem.
The deputy was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and later released. The sheriff's office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a blue, four-door Hyundai Sonata. At the time of the ramming incident, the vehicle did not have any license plates.
