CALIFORNIA DEPUTY HURT DURING OFF-ROAD PATROL
A man driving an off-road vehicle in a prohibited area north of the Canyon Lake city limits Saturday is suspected of knocking down and dragging a deputy with his vehicle, prompting the deputy's partner to shoot at the driver, authorities said.
The deputy suffered minor injuries to his left leg and arm, but no one in the off-road vehicle was injured, a sheriff's news release said.
The deputies were doing an off-road enforcement patrol in the unincorporated Riverside County area west of Kabian County Park when they spotted two men about 2:30 p.m. in a Rhino -- a four-wheel rough-terrain vehicle that resembles a dune buggy.
