VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER STRUCK BY TRUCK, LISTED ‘FAIR’

A volunteer firefighter sustained a number of injuries, including broken bones, after being struck by a truck Monday afternoon. A “full-size” pickup truck backed into firefighter James Whitmore, 48, of Lyndeborough, as he was kneeling to cut a garden hose in front of the fire station at 129 Forest Road, police said. Police were called to the scene at 2:20 p.m.

Authorities reported that Whitmore sustained a couple of broken bones, cuts, bruises, but nothing life-threatening. Taylor Ford, 18, of Lyndeborough, was the driver of the pickup truck. Weather did not appear to be a factor in the incident. Police would not confirm whether Ford is also a volunteer firefighter. Police said the garden hose Whitmore was cutting had been used to help drain water from the fire station. As of Tuesday evening, Whitmore was listed in fair condition at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.
