TWO CALIFORNIA SHERIFF'S CARS HIT BY SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER
A large SUV driven by a suspected drunk driver slammed into two sheriff's patrol cars early Wednesday morning, minutes after they had stopped another driver suspected of driving drunk. Neither deputy was hurt, but both their cruisers were heavily damaged.
The two deputies had pulled over the first vehicle on East Vista Way near Foothill Drive when a Chevrolet Suburban crashed into the cruisers, Maxin said. One deputy was in that car. The other had stepped out from between the two vehicles moments before the Suburban plowed into them. The 18-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital for examination, then booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver whom the deputies originally stopped? He was booked on suspicion of DUI as well, the sergeant said.
