MICHIGAN TOW TRUCK DRIVER, WOMAN KILLED IN SEPERATE ACCIDENTS
A tow truck driver was killed late Friday night after an accident on eastbound I-696, just east of Woodward. The driver, identified as 57-year old Paul Taras, was working to change a flat tire on a WWJ News SUV when another SUV slammed into the back end of the tow truck, pinning Taras between his truck and the WWJ News vehicle.
Taras was rushed to Beaumont Hospital but died. He worked for Monaghan's Towing in Ferndale. State Police troopers on the scene said the other driver involved may have been driving drunk. He was in custody Friday night.
Also Friday night, a woman was killed in an accident involving a Dearborn Heights police car. The accident happened on Van Born, west of Beech Daly. Taylor police say the victim was a passenger in a car that collided with the police cruiser. The identity of the woman who died wasn't being released early Saturday morning.
